Research Data Scotland
Research Data Scotland is unlocking the power of public sector data to make it quicker and simpler to do research and improve lives.
Data is often locked away in lots of individual systems, across many different organisations, and is not in a format that makes access or integration easy. We work with researchers, analysts and policymakers to widen the range of data available - from health, social care and administrative - create new data assets, and provide a single point of contact for safe, secure and effective access to public sector data.
We are a not-for-profit charitable organisation created and funded by the Scottish Government, and a partnership between leading universities and public bodies.

DARE UK
DARE UK (Data and Analytics Research Environments UK) is on a mission to improve lives by enabling faster, better, and trustworthy sensitive data research in the UK. To achieve this vision, DARE UK is leading strategic efforts to create a secure, federated network of trusted research environments (TREs) to enable efficient access to sensitive data research for the public good. DARE UK is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the UK's largest public funder of data and research innovation.
With public involvement and engagement at the heart, DARE UK is collaborating with sensitive data research stakeholders across the UK and beyond to explore innovative ways to make its vision a reality. To this end, DARE UK has commissioned two portfolios of projects to lead fact-finding missions to inform the direction of the programme. The first of these portfolios were nine Sprint Exemplar Projects implemented from January to August 2022 to test early thinking in the development of a trustworthy national data research infrastructure. The second portfolio has five Driver Projects, which commenced in February 2023 and will run until October 2023, supporting the design of a UK-wide secure and interoperable network of TREs.
Based on the findings from these projects, global best practices, and input from data and research stakeholders, DARE UK has developed theinitial draft architecture blueprint of its proposed federated network of TREs. The programme is now making strides towards its vision through inclusive, community-led initiatives, such as the DARE UK Community Groups, uniting sensitive data experts to co-create innovations that support sensitive data research in the UK.
